從今年6月1日開始，所有在中國申請英國學生簽證的學生都將進行面試。英國大使館教育文化處相關負責人表示，新制度不是為了增加簽證難度，是為了把簽證發放給那些“真正想到英國學習的學生”，對于面簽，中國學生不必過多擔憂。
數據顯示，2012年，英國內政部在中國簽發了超過57000份學生簽證，比2011年增長約9%。在中國，因為學生申請的材料質量不斷上升，拒簽率從2010年的14%下降到2012年的2%。英國政府政策內閣部長奧利弗·萊特文表示，對于面簽，中國學生無需感到害怕，此舉不會影響中國學生和其他真正的國際學生很高的簽證通過率。
專家表示，英國簽證面試被拒簽的幾率非常之低，因為這不作為對簽證申請者英文能力的衡量，唯一可能的被拒簽原因就是面試官認為申請人材料不充分，對自己的學習計劃很不明確，不是真正的學生簽證入境者，而是把這個簽證用來做別的用途。增設面試環節不會延長申請時間，也不會對簽證通過率造成影響。
英國領事館教育文化處相關負責人重申，新的面試體系將使防止學生簽證體系被濫用，整個簽證流程更加完善，這將保護目的為真正赴英學習與工作的學生和正規的高等院校、中學及學院，確保英國教育環境井然有序，以繼續吸引更多優秀的中國學生。
英國留學學生簽證具體要求
1、簽證面試將由英國內務部工作人員通過高科技視頻連接來完成(并非通過Skype，而是一個專門設計的系統)。這些工作人員都經過全面的培訓，并熟知對中國申請人的要求。
2、面試語言為英語，但并不作為學生英語水平的評價標準。學生仍需針對其前往英國求學的意愿以及所選課程和就讀院校等基本問題做出回答。
3、學生提交申請資料及完成生物指紋采集以后，簽證中心將立即進行面試。學生無需進行一次單獨的簽證面試。
4、承諾該簽證過程將不會影響到簽證總體時間，仍為15個工作日。
5、新簽證面試將于6月1日初開始執行，適用于所有Tier4申請人，沒有例外。
