雖然目前還尚未有官方機構(gòu)來統(tǒng)計每年幾十萬留學生的專業(yè)選擇，但從目前不同機構(gòu)公布的數(shù)據(jù)來看，商科依舊是最受中國學生青睞的專業(yè)，此外學習理工科的學生群體也相當龐大。其次最受中國學生歡迎的專業(yè)包括工程學、數(shù)學和計算機科學、物理和生命科學等。這其中就要得益于美國對STEM專業(yè)學生的重點培養(yǎng)政策，相關政策還給予了STEM
相關專業(yè)的留學生非常多的實習和工作機會。
根據(jù)國際教育協(xié)會(IIE)的年度報告將把8所常春藤學校按照中國學生的數(shù)量進行了排名，其中哥倫比亞大學是擁有最多中國學生的常春藤大學。
