詞源詞根法
改寫(xiě)自古英語(yǔ)blindfellen。blind，瞎。fell，砍伐，擊倒。原指打瞎，后改成fold，折疊，指眼罩。blindfold和fold沒(méi)有絲毫關(guān)系，在中世紀(jì)英語(yǔ)中原作blindfellen/blindfelden，由blind（瞎的）加fellen‘to fell’（擊倒）構(gòu)成，字面義為to strike someone blind（打瞎子）。那么它后來(lái)是如何演變?yōu)閎lindfold的呢？英國(guó)有一古老的捉迷藏游戲，叫blindman's buff/bluff。一人蒙住雙眼摸索著去捉在他周?chē)鷣?lái)回躲閃的人，捉住后辨認(rèn)所捉的人是誰(shuí)。這一游戲漢語(yǔ)有時(shí)譯作“摸瞎子”，蒙跟的布通常是一塊折疊起來(lái)的（folded）手帕。因此人們常將btindfellen的過(guò)去分詞形式blindfeld/blindfelled和fold（折疊）一詞相聯(lián)系，久而久之就漸漸演化為blindfold這一形式，既可用作形容詞，表示“被蒙住眼睛的”，也可用作動(dòng)詞，表示“蒙住…的服睛”。
