a lot 的意思就等于lots of
many/much和a lot of/lots of意思相同，但語氣上，many和much沒有a lot of那么隨便，a lot of又沒有lots of那么隨便。所以，a lot of / lots of不宜用于謹嚴的寫作，多見于口語；但問句、否定句口頭上也多用many和much。
還有一點，a lot是副詞，可以修飾動詞，而lots of不可以
