To obtain the Ph.D. degree, a student is required to:
1. Complete 12 term courses (including reading courses) at the graduate level, at least two with Honors grades.
2. Participate in teaching. Each student is required to teach as a teaching fellow two undergraduate courses by the end of their second year;
3. Pass a qualifying examination on their general applied mathematical knowledge
4. Find an adviser. By the time the student has passed the qualifying exam, he/she is expected to have found an adviser.
5. Be in residence for at least three years. The residence requirement must normally be met within the first four years of study. Any exception to the residence requirement must be approved by the department and by the appropriate associate dean.
6. Complete a dissertation that clearly advances understanding of the subject it considers.
1. 完成12門(mén)研究生階段的學(xué)期課程(包括閱讀課程)，至少2門(mén)獲得榮譽(yù)成績(jī)。在這12門(mén)課程中，學(xué)生應(yīng)在第一年完成應(yīng)用分析、數(shù)值計(jì)算、算法和概率方法各4門(mén)核心課程。為了達(dá)到博士學(xué)位的最低研究生院質(zhì)量要求，學(xué)生必須在研究生院預(yù)科后和九個(gè)月的至少一門(mén)全年或兩門(mén)全學(xué)期研究生課程中獲得榮譽(yù)等級(jí)學(xué)年。除了專(zhuān)門(mén)與論文研究和準(zhǔn)備有關(guān)的課程之外，必須滿(mǎn)足榮譽(yù)要求。 除上述內(nèi)容外，所有一年級(jí)學(xué)生必須成功完成一門(mén)關(guān)于負(fù)責(zé)任的研究行為的課程。

3. 在第二學(xué)年末通過(guò)一般應(yīng)用數(shù)學(xué)知識(shí)：代數(shù)、分析、概率和統(tǒng)計(jì)等的資格考試;
4. 尋找顧問(wèn)。當(dāng)學(xué)生通過(guò)資格考試時(shí)，應(yīng)該找一名顧問(wèn)。顧問(wèn)必須得到研究生部主任的批準(zhǔn)，并鼓勵(lì)學(xué)生盡早找到顧問(wèn)。學(xué)生與導(dǎo)師合作，準(zhǔn)備論文說(shuō)明書(shū)，概述研究計(jì)劃并證明了對(duì)相關(guān)文獻(xiàn)的熟悉程度。
5. 居住至少三年。通常必須在學(xué)習(xí)的前四年內(nèi)滿(mǎn)足居住要求。居住要求的任何例外都必須得到系和適當(dāng)?shù)母痹洪L(zhǎng)的批準(zhǔn)。
6. 完成一篇論文，清楚地促進(jìn)對(duì)其所考慮主題的理解。
