傳說，克里特島的國(guó)王米諾斯（Minos）是宙斯和歐羅巴公主的兒子。在他與兄弟爭(zhēng)奪王位時(shí)，曾請(qǐng)求海神波塞冬降下神跡來支持他。波塞冬答應(yīng)了他，從海中升出一頭俊美的白色公牛，并要求事后把公牛獻(xiàn)祭給他。沒想到米諾斯當(dāng)時(shí)國(guó)王后，不舍得宰殺這頭俊美的白牛，就偷梁換柱用另一頭牛代替獻(xiàn)祭給了波塞冬。波塞冬特別生氣，想嚴(yán)懲這個(gè)欺騙神靈的國(guó)王，就施展法力，使王后愛上了這頭白牛。王后生下了一個(gè)牛頭人身的怪物米諾陶洛斯。為了遮羞，米諾斯要求當(dāng)時(shí)著名的工匠代達(dá)羅斯（Daedalus）建造了一座名叫l(wèi)abyrinth的迷宮，把彌諾陶洛斯關(guān)在里面。
